Click on ‘All Calf Sales’ on the Reports Menu to display a list of all calves
sold during a selected date period. The number of calves sold and total payment
received are shown at the top. You may sort by any column in the list. Click the

You can also use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to scroll up or
down to find the animal you want.

----- ANIMAL PURCHASE -----
Click on ‘Purchase (This Animal)’ on the Reports Menu to display an Animal
Purchase record of a particular animal. The Category of animal purchased, its
Name or Number, and Registration Number, are automatically filled in from the
animal’s information screen. Fill in the remaining edit boxes as desired.
----- ANIMALS SOLD (THIS COW/BULL) -----
Click on ‘Animals Sold (This Cow/Bull)’ on the Reports Menu to display a list of
all offspring sold from the Cow or Bull listed in the ‘Animals From’ edit box
above. The number of offspring sold (Number of Animals), Average price they sold
for, and Total Sales Amount are shown at the top. You may sort by any column in
the list. Click the down arrow on the right of the ‘Sort By’ selection box to
choose a sort column.
There are edit boxes showing how many of each category were sold and amount
received for each category.
You can also use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to scroll up or
down to find the animal you want.

----- BREEDING INFORMATION -----
The Breeding Information screen is accessed from the Cow Info and Breeding
Record.
Some of the edit boxes on this screen are filled in automatically from the Cow
Info and Breeding Record. Enter other information as desired.
If the semen came from a bull off your ranch enter the owner’s information, and
the semen cost information.
Enter the artificial insemination information at the bottom of the screen. If an
AI was accomplished, the edit boxes for Straws Used, Tank, Canister, and Semen
Code must be filled in. The AI Tech and Phone are optional.
Click the ‘Save and Close’ button. A dialog box pop’s up indicating that the
bull’s semen inventory has been updated. His inventory has been reduced by the
number in the ‘Straws Used’ edit box. The program now takes you back to the Cow
Info and Breeding Record.
----- BULL INFO AND BREEDING RECORD -----
The Bull Information is shown on the left side of the screen, and his Breeding
Record on the right. The record comes up showing his Last breeding record. Click
the ‘Prev Rcrd’ button to view the breeding record previous to this one, and the
‘Next Rcrd’ button to view the breeding record after this one.
Many of the edit boxes are auto-filled. When the cursor is put into an auto-fill
edit box, by tabbing, or clicking the mouse, a Look-Up list appears with options
to choose from. Click on the desired data to enter and it will be installed in
the edit box and the look-up list will go away. If desired, you can click the X
in the upper right corner of the look-up list to dismiss it and enter the data
manually.

If the Premise ID has been entered on the Main Menu the ‘Premise ID’ edit box
will auto-fill when creating a new animal screen by clicking ‘New Cow’, ‘New
Bull’, etc.
The ‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box will auto-fill, but the Herd/Pasture names must
first be entered into a list on the ‘Program Setup’ screen. This screen is
accessed from the Main Menu. An animal may be moved by clicking in the
‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box again and selecting a new pasture or pen name.
Move a whole herd by clicking ‘Move Herd’ and selecting the desired pasture,
group, or location.
The Breed and Color auto-fill lists may be modified in ‘Program Setup’.
Sire and Dam: The pedigree of an animal may be entered directly into the
pedigree chart. The program will automatically create a Bull or Cow record for
each animal entered into the pedigree chart. The pedigree can also be created as
follows: First, enter each Sire into its own Bull record, and each Dam into its
own Cow record. Make sure the ‘Include in Lookups’ checkbox is checked. Click
the archive check-box if the animal is not in your inventory. Then ‘Click’ the
sire and dam into the ‘Sire’ and ‘Dam’ edit boxes of the appropriate animal’s
record.
When the Pelvic Height and Pelvic Width are entered the Pelvic Area will be
calculated and entered automatically.
TEBV is the Twining Estimated Breeding Value. This value is used for keeping
track of animals bred to be multiple birth animals.
The names of the TEBV, Family, and DNA edit boxes may be changed by the user as
desired, in Program Setup.
PAP is the Pulmonary Arterial Pressure. This information is normally entered for
animals being raised in higher elevations.
Delete Record (Button)
Deletes the entire Animal Record and its associated Breeding record! This button
gives a warning and asks if you are sure you want to do this.
Reports (Button)
This button takes you to the screen listing the various Reports that are
available. The animal’s Name, Registration, and Herd/Pasture name are brought
forward from the animal’s record.
Move Herd (Button)
This button allows you to move the entire herd from one pasture to another.
Comments (Button)
The Comments dialog allows you to enter any desired information about this
animal. Once information has been entered an asterisk will show on the Comments
button.
List Bulls (Button)
List all Bulls on the ranch or all in a specific herd/pasture. Another bull may
be selected from the List Bulls dialog or close that dialog and come back to the
same bull record.
Get Scale Weight (Button)
Click this button to retrieve the current weight shown on the scale head.
D (Button)
Clicking the ‘D’ to the right of the Sire or Dam allows you to delete the
current Sire or Dam out of the edit box.
Pictures (Button)
Enter up to six pictures of this animal. Choose one of them to be displayed on
the Pedigree Chart.
Horn Info (Button)
Click the ‘Horn Info’ button to enter information about Longhorn cattle.
Owner (Button)
Click the ‘Owner’ button to enter information as appropriate if this animal is
owned by someone off-ranch, or is co-owned with someone else.
Archive (Check Box)
Click on the Archive Check Box to Archive or Un-Archive this animal.
Include in lookups (Check Box)
When this check box is checked this animal will be listed in the Lookup List.
Otherwise this animal will not be in the Lookup List.
BULL BREEDING RECORD
The breeding information may be entered manually. However, we recommend entering
the breeding information in the cow’s breeding record; then click the ‘Write to
Bull Record’ button. Information in the cow’s breeding record will then be
written to the bull’s breeding record.
Testing:
Make a new test record each time the bull is tested.
Semen Inventory:
This section gives a quick reference of this bull’s Semen Inventory. To see a
detailed report or to enter semen data click the ‘Semen System’ button.
----- CALENDAR -----
The Calendar is displayed automatically anytime the user clicks or tabs into an
empty date edit box.
YEAR:
The Month and Year are shown at the top of the calendar. Click on the Year and a
‘Spin’ control will appear to the right of the year. You can ‘click’ the year up
or down one year at a time, or hold the mouse button down to change several
years quickly.
MONTH:
Click on the Month and a List of months will appear. Click on the desired month
and it will be installed at the top of the calendar.
You may also click the arrows to the left and right of the month and year at the
top of the calendar. This will cause the month to decrease (left arrow) or
increase (right arrow) one month at a time.
DAY:
Click the Day in the main body of the calendar and the full date will be entered
into the Date edit box.
----- CALVES -----

Move Calf to Heifer (Button)
Click this button to copy all this calf’s information to a new Heifer Record.
The Calf Record will be archived and the window next to the archive button will
indicate the calf was transferred (Xfer).
Move Calf to Bull (Button)
Click this button to copy all this calf’s information to a new Bull Record. The
Calf Record will be archived and the window next to the archive button will
indicate the calf was transferred (Xfer).
Move Calf to Cow (Button)
Click this button to copy all this calf’s information to a new Cow Record. The
Calf Record will be archived and the window next to the archive button will
indicate the calf was transferred (Xfer).
Move Calf to Steer (Button)
Click this button to copy all this calf’s information to a new Steer Record. The
Calf Record will be archived and the window next to the archive button will
indicate the calf was transferred (Xfer).
----- CARCASS DATA -----
Click on ‘Carcass Data’ on the Reports Menu to display this dialog. Enter
Carcass Data and Ultrasound information for each animal as desired.

Click this button to go the Recip Cow section in the Embryo Transfer System.
COW BREEDING RECORD
Pasture Breeding:
If the cows are Pasture Bred, enter the date the cows are first exposed to the
bull (Date From). When the bull is separated from the cows enter that date (Date
To).
If the breeding of a cow is observed, the breeding date may be entered into the
‘Date Bred’ edit box. The ‘Due Date’ will be calculated and entered
automatically.
Click (or tab) into the edit box for ‘Bull (Natural Bred or Clean-up)’ and a
list of bulls will appear. Select the desired bull and his name will be entered
into the edit box.
Enter a Service Number. If this is the first attempt to breed this cow this
season enter a 1. If it is the second attempt enter a 2, etc.
Click (or tab) into the ‘How Conceived’ edit box and select Natural.
If a pregnancy Check is performed enter the date in ‘Preg Check’ and select Bred
or Open in the ‘Bred/Open’ edit box.
Write To Bull (Button)
Click the ‘Write to Bull Record’ button to write the current cow breed record to
the Bull’s breed record.
Artificial Insemination:
Enter the AI date in the ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’ edit box. The ‘Due Date’
will be calculated and entered automatically.
If the cow is Pasture Exposed (Cleanup Bull), enter the date this cow was first
exposed to the bull (Date From). When the bull is separated from the cow enter
that date (Date To).
Click (or tab) into the edit box for ‘Bull (Natural Bred or Clean-up)’ and a
list of bulls will appear. Select the desired bull and his name will be entered
into the edit box.
Click (or tab) into the edit box for ‘Bull (Artificial Insemination)’ and a list
of bulls will appear. Select the desired bull and his name will be entered into
the edit box.
Enter a Service Number. If this is the first attempt to breed this cow, this
season, enter a ‘1’. If it is the second attempt enter a ‘2’, etc.
Click (or tab) into the ‘How Conceived’ edit box and select AI.
Click the ‘Write To Bull Record’ button. This will cause the current cow breed
record to be written to the Bull’s breed record.
When a pregnancy Check is performed enter the date in ‘Preg Check’ and select
Bred or Open in the ‘Bred/Open’ edit box.
Enter the estimate of days bred in the ‘Days Bred’ edit box. When you click Out
of this box, the program will know you are through typing the number and an
estimated Date Bred will be generated internally. The program will compare this
internal, estimated Date Bred with the displayed ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’. If
the program determines that the internal, estimated Date Bred is more than 14
days after the displayed ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’, the following functions
will be performed:
The displayed ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’ will be moved to the ‘AI Date Ref’ edit
box (for reference only), the displayed ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’ will change
to reflect the internally generated, estimated Date Bred, the ‘X’ will be moved
from the AI Bull up to the Cleanup Bull, and ‘How Conceived’ will change to
Natural.
Breeding Info (Button):
When breeding by Artificial Insemination, or when using a bull from off-ranch,
click the ‘Breeding Info’ button on the right, middle of the Cow Breeding
Record. This will display the ‘Breeding Information’ screen. Enter Owner and Fee
Information if applicable. If breeding by AI enter Straws Used, Tank, Canister,
and Semen Code. Entering information in the AI Tech and Phone edit boxes is
optional.
When ‘Save’ or ‘Save and Close’ is clicked and breeding was by AI a dialog box
will appear which states, “The Bull’s semen inventory has been updated.” At this
time the number of straws used for the AI will be subtracted from the inventory
of the AI bull.
Apply Breeding To Cow Herd (Button):
When multiple cows have been bred, clicking this button will cause all
information Above the button to be written into every cow’s record in this
Herd/Pasture.
Apply Breeding To RFID Tag List (Button):
When multiple cows have been bred, clicking this button will cause all
information above the button to be written into every cow’s record which was
scanned by an electronic Tag Reader.
Calving:
Enter the date the calf was born into the ‘Date Calved’ edit box. The program
will automatically fill the ‘Date Bred, AI or Implant’ edit box based on the
gestation period set in Program Setup.
Select and install the sex of the calf in the ‘Sex of Calf’ edit box.
Enter the birth weight (if desired). We recommend entering a birth weight, even
if it is estimated. This weight is used later in calculating the 205 day
adjusted wean weight.
Enter the name or number of the new calf.
Click the ‘Write to Bull Record’ button. This will cause the current Cow breed
record to be written to the Bull’s breed record.
Create/Go to Calf Record (Button):
After all desired information is entered into the Breed Record; click the
‘Create/Go to Calf Record’ button. The program will create a new Calf Record and
carry forward and fill in all appropriate information from the Breed Record.
The new Calf Record is then displayed on the screen.
You may continue to enter information into the Breed Record after a Calf Record
has been created, however, when you click the ‘Create/Go to Calf Record’ button
again the program will take you to the already existing Calf Record but none of
the new information will be carried forward.
Delete Brd Rec (Button)
Delete the current Breed Record. Only the currently displayed Breed Record is
deleted.
----- CYCLE DUE DATES -----
The ‘Cycle Due Dates’ report shows a list of all cows that have been bred and
are still within the first two cycles of the breeding period.
The report lists basic breeding information, shows when the next cycle is due,
and which cycle is due (first or second).
After two cycles have past for a particular cow that cow is dropped off the
list.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Set the
printer for Landscape Mode.
----- DEATH CERTIFICATE -----
Click on ‘Death Certificate’ on the Reports Menu to display a Death Certificate
for a specific animal.
The Name/Number, Registration Number, Sire, Dam, and Purchase price (if
applicable) are filled in automatically.
Complete the record as desired and save it. The animal will be taken out of
inventory but its record will remain in the database.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
----- EMBRYO TRANSFER (Option) -----
The Embryo Transfer module is accessed from the Cow Info and Breeding Record.
Breeding Record
Enter a Donor Cow in the Cow Info and Breeding Record. Enter the breeding
information on the right side of the screen. Save, and then click on the
‘Breeding Info’ button. Much of the information is brought forward from the
previous screen.
If the semen came from a bull off your ranch enter the owner’s information, and
the semen cost information.
Enter the artificial insemination information at the bottom of the screen. You
must fill in the Straws Used, Tank, Canister, and Semen Code. The AI Tech and
Phone are optional.
Click the ‘Save and Close’ button. A dialog box pop’s up indicating that the
bull’s semen inventory has been updated. His inventory has been reduced by the
number in the ‘Straws Used’ edit box. The program now takes you back to the Cow
Info and Breeding Record.
Donor Cow
Click the ‘Donor Cow’ button on the right, middle of the Breeding Record. The
Donor Cows List appears. You may click on the ‘Create New Donor Record’ button
or select a previously entered donor from the list.
Selecting a donor will cause the ‘Donor Cow Information’ screen to appear. Most
of this screen’s edit boxes will be filled in automatically with information
brought forward from the Cow Info and Breeding Record. You may now enter the
Date Flushed and any desired comments.
AI and Flush Cost information may be entered by clicking the button at the top,
middle of the screen. You may also enter Owner information for this donor if she
belongs to someone off-ranch.
Click the ‘Embryo Collection’ button to go to the next screen.
Embryo Collection
Some of this screen is filled in from the previous screen.
When you put the cursor in the practitioner Name edit box a Practitioner List
will appear. Any number of practitioners may be entered by clicking the ‘New
Record’ edit box each time a new entry is desired. Click the ‘Select
Practitioner’ button to enter a practitioner into the Embryo Collection screen.
Enter other information as desired including the ‘Age of Embryos When Flushed’,
then ‘Save’.
Move on to the Embryo Transfer/Preservation Information screen by clicking the
‘Transfer Info’ button.
Embryo Transfer/Preservation Information
Some of this screen is filled in from the previous screen.
Enter ‘Interval from Collection to Freezing’ and ‘Freeze Date’. If the Date Bred
and Flush Date are entered the ‘Age of Embryos When Frozen’ will be entered
automatically.
Enter each embryo from this flush into the chart in the lower, right area of the
screen. Put a + in the first column (under Inv) to indicate the embryo is in
inventory. This includes those embryos which are transferred fresh, even though
they have no freeze information. When an embryo is implanted the program will
take the + out of the Inv column for that embryo.
Recipient Cow
Breeding Record
Enter a Recipient Cow in the Cow Info and Breeding Record. Enter the implant
date and other breeding information on the right side of the screen. Save, and
then click on the ‘Breeding Info’ button. Much of the information is brought
forward from the previous screen. Enter Location and Comments as desired.
Click the ‘Save and Close’ button. The program now takes you back to the Cow
Info and Breeding Record.
Recipient Cow
Click the ‘Recip Cow’ button on the right, middle of the Breeding Record. The
Recipient Cows List appears. You may click on the ‘Create New Recip Record’
button or select a previously entered Recip from the list.
Selecting a Recip will cause the ‘Recipient Cow Information’ screen to appear.
You will not have to type anything on this screen. Many of this screen’s edit
boxes will be filled in automatically with information brought forward from the
Cow Info and Breeding Record.
All other edit boxes will be filled in as follows:
Put the cursor in the Practitioner Name edit box. A list of pre-entered
Practitioners appears and you may select one by clicking the ‘Select
Practitioner’ button.
Now a Donor Cow must be selected from which to select an embryo. Put the cursor
in the Donor Cow, Donor Name edit box in the lower, left area of the screen. A
list of pre-entered Donor Cows appears and you may select one by clicking the
name of the desired Donor Cow. All the donor information is filled in
automatically.
To select an embryo click the ‘Fill Embryo Info’ button. A list appears showing
all embryos available from this donor on the specified flush date. Click on the
embryo desired and the information for that embryo will be installed.
Select a Thaw Method from the list that appears when you put the cursor in the
Thaw Method edit box.
Enter any desired comments.
Implant Cost information may be entered by clicking the button at the top,
middle of the screen. You may also enter Owner information for this recip if she
belongs to someone off-ranch.
----- EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES (EPD) -----
Enter Expected Progeny Differences for each bull, cow, and heifer as desired.
When the EPDs have been entered for a cow and a bull and they produce a calf,
the calf’s EPDs will be created automatically.
----- FIND ANIMAL -----
Clicking an animal category button on the main menu brings you to this screen
which provides a list of all animals in the selected category. The cursor is
automatically set in the ‘Animal Name’ edit box. As you begin typing an animal’s
name the list gets shorter each time you type a letter, showing only the animals
whose names begin with the letters you have typed in so far. When you see the
animal’s name in the list, click the name, and the program will take you to that
animal’s record.
You can also use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to scroll up or
down to find the animal you want.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
NUM ANIMALS: The Num Animals edit box shows how many animals are listed in the
List Box below.
SHOW ARCHIVES: Archived records are for animals which have been sold, died,
transferred, or are in the records for pedigree purposes only. These records can
be accessed from the Main Menu by clicking ‘Archived Records’, or they can be
accessed from the ‘Find Animal’ screen if the ‘Show Archives’ check box is
checked.
NEW RECORD (Button)
Click this button to create a new animal record.
----- HEIFERS -----
Many of the edit boxes are auto-filled. When the cursor is put into an auto-fill
edit box, by tabbing, or clicking the mouse, a Look-Up list appears with options
to choose from. Click on the desired data to enter and it will be installed in
the edit box and the look-up list will go away. If desired, you can click the X
in the upper right corner of the look-up list to dismiss it and enter the data
manually.
Clicking on any Date edit box will cause a calendar to appear on the screen. We
highly recommend that you always click the dates in from the calendar. You can
change the month on the calendar by clicking on the month to get a list to
choose from or by clicking on the little arrows left and right of the month. You
can change the year by clicking on the year, then click the up or down arrows on
the right side of the year.
Enter the Name or Ear Tag number in the ‘Name or Ear Tag’ edit box. This is the
only edit box which must have something in it. Entering data in all other edit
boxes is optional. If you use both a Name and an Ear Tag enter the name in the
‘Name or Ear Tag’ edit box and the Ear Tag in the ‘Ear Tag’ edit box.
The EID (Electronic Identification) number may be entered by typing it in or by
scanning the EID tag with an RFID scanner while the animal’s record is showing
on the screen.
If the Premise ID has been entered on the Main Menu the ‘Premise ID’ edit box
will auto-fill when creating a new animal screen by clicking ‘New Heifer’.
The ‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box will auto-fill, but the Herd/Pasture names must
first be entered into a list on the ‘Program Setup’ screen. This screen is
accessed from the Main Menu. An animal may be moved by clicking in the
‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box again and selecting a new pasture or pen name.
Move a whole herd by clicking ‘Move Herd’ and selecting the desired pasture,
group, or location.
The Breed and Color auto-fill lists may be modified in ‘Program Setup’.
Sire and Dam: The pedigree of an animal may be entered directly into the
pedigree chart. The program will automatically create a Bull or Cow record for
each animal entered into the pedigree chart. The pedigree can also be created as
follows: First, enter each Sire into its own Bull record, and each Dam into its
own Cow record. Make sure the ‘Include in Lookups’ checkbox is checked. Click
the archive check-box if the animal is not in your inventory. Then ‘Click’ the
sire and dam into the ‘Sire’ and ‘Dam’ edit boxes of the appropriate animal’s
record.
TEBV is the Twining Estimated Breeding Value. This value is used for keeping
track of animals bred to be multiple birth animals.
The names of the TEBV, Family, and DNA edit boxes may be changed by the user as
desired, in Program Setup.
Delete Record (Button)
Deletes the Animal Record! This button gives a warning and asks if you are sure
you want to do this.
Reports (Button)
This button takes you to the screen listing the various Reports that are
available. The animal’s Name, Registration, and Herd/Pasture name are brought
forward from the animal’s record.
Move Herd (Button)
This button allows you to move the entire herd from one pasture to another.
Comments (Button)
The Comments dialog allows you to enter any desired information about this
animal. Once information has been entered an asterisk will show on the Comments
button.
List Heifers (Button)
List all Heifers on the ranch or all in a specific herd/pasture. Another heifer
may be selected from the List Heifers dialog or close that dialog and come back
to the same heifer record.
Get Scale Weight (Button)
Click this button to retrieve the current weight shown on the scale head.
D (Button)
Clicking the ‘D’ to the right of the Sire or Dam allows you to delete the
current Sire or Dam out of the edit box.
Pictures (Button)
Enter up to six pictures of this animal. Choose one of them to be displayed on
the Pedigree Chart.
Horn Info (Button)
Click the ‘Horn Info’ button to enter information about Longhorn cattle.
Owner (Button)
Click the ‘Owner’ button to enter information as appropriate if this animal is
owned by someone off-ranch, or is co-owned with someone else.
Archive (Check Box)
Click on the Archive Check Box to Archive or Un-Archive this animal.
Move Heifer to Cow (Button)
Click this button to copy this heifer’s information to a new Cow Record with her
own breeding record. The Heifer Record will be archived and the window next to
the archive button will indicate the heifer was transferred (Xfer).
----- HERD/PASTURE MOVEMENT -----
Click on ‘Herd/Pasture Movement’ on the Reports Menu to display a lifetime chart
of pasture movements for a particular animal. The chart is filled automatically
from the animal’s information screen each time the animal is moved.
This report may also be filled in or edited directly as desired.
----- INOCULATIONS AND PROCEDURES -----
Click on ‘Inoculations’ on the Reports Menu to display a list of all
Inoculations and Procedures for a specific animal during a selected date period.
The Animal Name and Registration Number are filled in automatically.
The program sets a default date period of one year back from today. You may
change this to any date period you like.
One Record is one line of information which includes: Date, Procedure, Product
and Manufacturer, Lot Number, Injection Site, Method, and Processor.
NEW RECORD (Button): You must click this button to enter a new record. You may
click on any edit box to edit an existing record.
PRODUCT/MEDICINE SETUP (Button): Click this button to go to the ‘Enter/Edit
Medicine List’. You may then create or edit a list of commonly used medicines.
PROCESSOR/VET SETUP (Button): Click this button to go to the ‘Veterinarian’
list. You may then create or edit a list of veterinarians and other individuals
who treat or process your animals.
PROCEDURE SETUP (Button): Click this button to go to the ‘Enter/Edit Procedure
List’. You may then create or edit a list of commonly used procedures.
APPLY CHANGE TO HERD (Button): If a procedure is performed on all animals of a
specific category (Cows, Calves, Heifers, etc) in a particular herd, enter the
information in a record for one animal in that herd then click on ‘Apply Change
to Herd’. The information will be written into a record for each animal of the
same category in that herd.
APPLY CHANGE TO RFID TAGS (Button): If a procedure is performed on all animals
of a group which was scanned with an electronic ear tag reader, enter the
information in a record for one animal in that group then click on ‘Apply Change
to RFID Tags’. The information will be written into a record for each animal in
that group.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
----- LIST ALL PURCHASES -----
Click on ‘List All Purchases’ on the Reports Menu to display a list of all
animals Purchased during a selected date period. The number of animals purchased
and total payments paid are shown at the top. You may sort by any column in the
list. Click the down arrow on the right of the ‘Sort By’ selection box to choose
a sort column.
There are edit boxes showing how many of each category were purchased and amount
paid for each category.
You can also use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to scroll up or
down to find the animal you want.

You may also choose a specific category of contacts. The categories include All
Contacts, Buyers, Sellers, and Others.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
PRINT ADDRESS LABELS (Button): Click this button, and then enter the Column and
Row of the beginning label to print. Then click the printer icon on the ‘Select
Label Position’ dialog.
----- LIST INVOICED CLIENTS -----
Click on ‘List Clients’ on the Reports Menu or on the Main Menu to display a
list of all clients for which an invoice has been created during a selected date
period. The number of clients and total payments received from these clients is
shown at the top. You may sort by any column in the list. Click the down arrow
on the right of the ‘Sort By’ selection box to choose a sort column.
Before a date period is selected the report shows a list of ALL clients.
LIST ALL INVOICED CLIENTS (Button): Even if a date period has been selected the
report will show a list of ALL clients if you click this button.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
NUM CLIENTS: The Num Clients edit box shows how many clients are listed in the
List Box below.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
PRINT ADDRESS LABELS (Button): Click this button, and then enter the Column and
Row of the beginning label to print. Then click the printer icon on the ‘Select
Label Position’ dialog.
----- MAIN MENU -----
Enter the Premise ID for your Farm or Ranch. The Premise ID is then
automatically entered into each new animal screen.
Edit boxes at the bottom of the screen allow entry of your favorite Veterinarian
and Insurance Company for reference only. Much more Vet information is available
inside the program.
Cows, Calves, Heifers, Bulls, Steers, Feeder (Buttons)
Click on one of the animal category buttons to get access to the animal records.
When you click on the ‘Cows’ button, the program presents a list of the cows on
the ‘Find Animal’ screen. You may click ‘New Record’ to enter the record of a
cow which is not yet in the database, or click on the name of a cow already in
the database, and that cow’s record will be displayed. Calves, Heifers, Bulls,
and Steers are accessed in the same way.
Archived Records (Button)
Click this button to access animals that have died, been sold, transferred, or
are in the database for pedigree purposes only. These animals will not be
counted in the inventory.
Picture (Button)
A picture can be entered into the picture frame associated with this button to
personalize your copy of the program.
Semen Inventory (Button)
Clicking on the ‘Semen Inventory’ button displays a list of all bulls from which
semen has been collected and stored in your tanks.
Feed Info (Button)
Click on ‘Feed Info’ to go to the Feed System, where there is an auto updating
Feed Inventory and Feed Purchase system.
RFID Reader Ear Tags (Button)
The ‘RFID Reader Ear Tags’ button is part of the RFID ear tag reader system.
Journal (Button)
The ‘Journal’ button is for accessing the General Purpose Journal.
User Manual (Button)
The User Manual can be accessed by clicking the ‘User Manual’ button.
Program Setup (Button)
Access the Program Setup screen by clicking on the ‘Program Setup’ button. This
screen allows the user to set Parameters, Defaults, and Lookup Lists as desired.
Data Management (Button)
The Data Management dialog allows Importing and Exporting data in Text File
format. This screen also allows creating and restoring Data Backups.
Reminders (Button)
Create Reminders for shots, boosters, billing, appointments, calving dates, etc.
List Clients (Button)
List all clients to which animals have been sold. The Client List is created
automatically from data entered in the Sale Invoices.
An Inventory of your animals is displayed near the bottom, center of the screen.
When changes are made to the animal records in the program, for example;
Purchases, Sales, Deaths, or Births, you may click the ‘Update Inv’ button to
update the inventory. Exiting the program and opening it again will also update
the inventory.
----- MEDICATION -----
Click on ‘Medication (This Animal)’ on the Reports Menu to display Medication
records for a specific animal. The Medication screen opens showing the Last
record that was created for this animal. If no record has previously been
created, a new one is created now and the animal’s Name is filled in
automatically.
SELECT SUPPLIER FROM LIST (Button): Click this button to go to the ‘Medical
Suppliers’ selection screen. You may then click the ‘Select Supplier’ button to
select the supplier currently being displayed. The information for that supplier
will be entered into the animal’s record. Click on ‘Previous Supplier’ or ‘Next
Supplier’ to search for others suppliers in the file.
If the desired supplier is not in the file, click ‘New Supplier’ and enter the
information as needed. If it becomes necessary to delete a supplier out of the
file, click ‘Delete Supplier’.
PREVIOUS RECORD (Button): When the Medication screen is opened the program will
show the Last record that was created. You can click the ‘Previous Record’
button to view a record that was entered previous to the current one.
NEXT RECORD (Button): You can click the ‘Next Record’ button to view a record
that was entered after the current one.
NEW RECORD (Button): You may click this button to enter a new record. You may
click on any edit box to edit an existing record.
LIST ALL MEDS (Button): Click this button to view a list of all Medications ever
given to this animal.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
----- MEDICATIONS (HERD) -----
Click on ‘Medicine Expenses (Herd)’ on the Reports Menu to display Medications/
Expenses for All Animals. A date period can be entered for a list of all
treatments during a specific period.
The header shows how many or each category have been medicated (Cows, Calves,
Bulls, Heifers, Steers), and the total cost for each category. It also shows the
total cost for all animals for the period.
ALL ANIMALS (Check box): Creates a list of all animals on the ranch that have
been medicated.
SPECIFIC HERD (Check box): Creates a list of all animals in a specific herd that
have been medicated.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Set the
printer for Landscape Mode.
----- MORTALITY LIST -----
Click on ‘Mortality List’ on the Reports Menu to display a list of all deaths
during a selected date period. The number of deaths is shown at the top. You may
sort by any column in the list. Click the down arrow on the right of the ‘Sort
By’ selection box to choose a sort column.
The header shows how many animals of each category have died (Cows, Calves,
Bulls, Heifers, Steers), and the total number that died during the period.
BORN ON RANCH (Radio Button): Show a list of animals that died, which were born
on the ranch.
PURCHASED (Radio Button): Show a list of animals that died, which were
purchased.
ALL (Radio Button): Show a list of all deaths.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
----- MULTI-CLIENT SYSTEM (Option) -----
The Multi-Client System allows the user to keep track of multiple Program
Clients in a single Livestock Manager. There is no practical limit to the number
of clients that may be entered.
All information for a particular client is kept in its own, separate, database.
The program name, farm name, picture, inventory, etc are all individualized for
each client.
PROGRAM CLIENTS (Button on Main Menu)
Click this button to go to the ‘Select Client/User’ screen. This screen displays
a list of all current clients in this program. The Default Client is the
original client built into the system.
Select a Client by clicking on the desired client’s name. Once the client’s name
is highlighted click the ‘Select’ button at the bottom. The program will close
the current client’s information, open the selected client’s database, and
display the appropriate Program Name, Farm Name, Picture, Inventory, etc.
EDIT CLIENT (Button on ‘Select Client/User’ screen)
Click this button to Enter, Edit, or Remove a Client/User. The ‘Edit
Client/User’ screen will appear.
TO ENTER A NEW CLIENT: Type the client’s name in the ‘Add New Client’ edit box
then click the ‘Add New Client’ button.
TO EDIT AN EXISTING CLIENT: Click the client’s name in the ‘Client/Users’ list
so that it is copied into the ‘Selected Client/User’ edit box. You can then edit
the name as desired.
TO DELETE AN EXISTING CLIENT: Click the client’s name in the ‘Client/Users’ list
so that it is copied into the ‘Selected Client/User’ edit box. You can then
delete the client’s name by clicking ‘Delete Selected Client’.
----- PEDIGREE -----
Click on ‘Pedigree’ on the Reports Menu to display a four generation pedigree
chart for a particular animal. The chart is filled automatically from the
animal’s information screen.
ADD ANCESTORS: Ancestors may be added directly in the pedigree chart, or you may
‘click’ the Sire and Dam into each animal’s information screen as desired.
When you click in an empty ancestor edit box the ‘Pedigree Add Animal’ dialog
box will appear. This dialog allows you to directly enter an ancestor’s name and
registration number, or select an ancestor from a list by clicking the Down
Arrow on the right end of the ‘Name or Ear Tag’ edit box. By default the new
ancestor is Archived (so it will not count in inventory), and the ‘Include in
Lookups’ box is checked so this animal will be included in the Lookups (Pick)
List. If the animal IS in your inventory, uncheck the Archive box. If you don’t
want the animal to show in the ‘Pick’ list anymore, uncheck the ‘Include in
Lookups’ box.
You cannot skip generations. If, for example, the Grand Sire box is empty you
cannot enter the GGS, etc.
--> (Button): Click this button to move up one generation at a time in this
animal’s ancestry. The upper button is for the Sire’s line and the lower button
is for the Dam’s line.
----- RFID TAG READERS -----
Y-Tex Bluetooth RFID Ear Tag Reader:
Important: Before configuring the Cow-Calf Manager to use the Y-Tex Bluetooth
reader, Bluetooth and the Y-Tex reader must be configured in Windows. Refer to
the Y-Tex product documentation for configuring the Y-Tex reader with Windows.
1) To configure the Cow-Calf Manager to use the Y-Tex Bluetooth RFID ear tag
reader, from the Main Menu, select Program Setup then click the Y-Tex RFID Ear
Tag Reader Button. In the Y-Tex Bluetooth Stick RFID reader dialog, enter the
Com Port Number that the reader is configured to use in Windows and check the
box at the top of the dialog.
The Com Port number must match that in the Windows Bluetooth Properties dialog
for the Y-Tex reader. You may test the reader after entering the Com Port by
clicking the Apply Settings button.
2) Only one RFID reader may be in use at a time. If the Allflex reader was
configured for use, it will be turned off when the Y-Tex reader is enabled.
3) In order for ear tags read by the Y-Tex reader to be received by the Cow-Calf
Manager, the Bluetooth connection in Windows must be established. The connection
may be established either before or after starting the Cow-Calf Manager. If the
Bluetooth connection for the Y-Tex reader has not been established, right-click
on the icon and select ‘Connect’. You will need to establish the connection each
time you use the Cow-Calf manager to receive scanned ear tags from the Y-Tex
reader. When the Cow-Calf manager exits, the connection is closed.
5) Only one animal per ear tag number may be assigned.
6) When an ear tag is read with the Main Menu as the active screen, the record
for that animal is retrieved and the appropriate dialog is displayed. If the tag
matches a calf, the calf dialog is displayed, etc.
7) When an animal dialog is active and a tag is scanned that matches the type of
animal for the dialog. The record for that animal is retrieved and displayed.
Example: Scanning a calf ear tag when the Calf dialog is displayed. However if
an animal of a different type is scanned the record is not retrieved. Example,
scanning a bull ear tag when the heifer dialog is active.
8) In addition to the Main Menu and animal dialogs the Shots dialog and Gain
data dialogs also receive ear tag scans. The Gain data dialog will only receive
Calf ear tag scans. The Shots dialog will receive ear tags of any animal type
and retrieve the Shots Record for that animal when the tag is scanned.
----- SALE INVOICE/RECEIPT (MULTIPLE CALVES) -----
Click on ‘Invoice (Multiple Calves)’ on the Reports Menu to create an Invoice
for a group of calves. The program automatically displays a list of all calves
available for sale.
DATE SOLD: The Date Sold is a required entry; even if it is estimated. Fill in
the remaining edit boxes as desired.
IN INVOICE: Click in the edit box in front of each calf you want to include in
this invoice. The program will put an X in the box to show the calf has been
included.
SOLD TO/SHIP TO: When you tab to, or click in, the Sold To edit box the list of
business contacts will appear. Simply click on the desired client and that
clients name will be entered automatically. If the desired client is not in the
list, dismiss the list and type in the information.
ADD ALL (Button): Click this button to include all animals in the list in this
sale.
REMOVE ALL (Button): Click this button to remove all selected animals in the
list from this sale.
ADD ALL IN HERD (Button): Click this button to include all animals in the list
which are also in the same herd or pasture in this sale.
TOTAL $: As information is entered into the Animals, Shipping, Misc, and Tax
edit boxes; the Total is calculated and entered automatically.
The Number of Animals, Average Weight, and Total Weight edit boxes are filled
automatically as animals are selected.
RESET (Button): Click the Reset button to move back to the original animal whose
pedigree was being displayed.
----- SEMEN INVENTORY -----
Click on ‘Semen Inventory’ on the Main Menu to display a list of all bulls from
which semen has been collected. The number of bulls is shown at the top.
You can click on a Bull’s name to go directly to that bull’s record.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
NUMBER OF BULLS: This edit box shows how many bulls are listed in the List Box
below.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
----- SEMEN SYSTEM -----
The Semen System is accessed from the Bull Info and Breeding Record by clicking
the ‘Semen System’ button in the lower right area of the screen. The record
comes up showing the last tank in which semen was stored from this bull.
Some of the edit boxes are auto-filled from the Bull Info and Breeding Record.
The upper left area of the screen shows the total number of semen units stored
and the number of tanks in which they are stored.
List (Button):
Click this button to display a list of all bulls from which semen has been
collected. The number of bulls is shown at the top.
Semen Invoice (Button):
Click this button to display a Semen Invoice to be used for selling semen. Semen
is automatically deducted from the inventory.
All Semen Sales (Button):
Click this button to displays a list of all Semen Sales by date period.
Semen Purchase (Button):
Click this button to display a Semen Purchase Order to be used for purchasing
semen. Semen is automatically added to the inventory.
All Semen Purchases (Button):
Click this button to displays a list of all semen purchases by date period.
The right side of the screen shows all the semen storage information for a
specific bull.
Previous Bull (Button):
This button allows you to move back in the records to the Previous Bull’s semen
record.
Next Bull (Button):
This button allows you to move forward in the records to the Next Bull’s semen
record.
List (Button):
Click this button to display a list of all tanks in which semen has been stored
from this bull.
Prev Tank (Button):
Click this button to view the record for this bull in a tank entered previous to
the current one.
Next Tank (Button):
Click this button to view the record for this bull in a tank entered after the
current one.
New Tank (Button):
Click this button to create a New Tank record for this bull.
To enter semen into the system: Start from the ‘Bull Info and Breeding Record’;
Click the ‘Semen System’ button in the lower right area of the screen. This
takes you to the Semen System. Choose a tank; enter the canister number; then
enter the number of units added to that canister.
----- SHOW INFORMATION -----
Click on ‘Show Info’ on the Reports Menu to display a Show Information screen.
The Type Animal, Name, and Registration Number are filled in automatically.
SHOW DATE: You must enter a show date before saving the record or before
proceeding to the Finance Information screen.
Fill in other edit boxes as desired.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
FINANCE INFORMATION (Button): Click this button to enter Finance Information for
this show.
SHOW FINANCE INFORMATION
Click on ‘Show Info’ on the Reports Menu to display a Show Information screen
then ‘Finance Information’ to get to this screen. The animal’s Name is filled in
automatically. Enter any other data as desired.
----- STEERS -----
Many of the edit boxes are auto-filled. When the cursor is put into an auto-fill
edit box, by tabbing, or clicking the mouse, a Look-Up list appears with options
to choose from. Click on the desired data to enter and it will be installed in
the edit box and the look-up list will go away. If desired, you can click the X
in the upper right corner of the look-up list to dismiss it and enter the data
manually.
Clicking on any Date edit box will cause a calendar to appear on the screen. We
highly recommend that you always click the dates in from the calendar. You can
change the month on the calendar by clicking on the month to get a list to
choose from or by clicking on the little arrows left and right of the month. You
can change the year by clicking on the year, then click the up or down arrows on
the right side of the year.
Enter the Name or Ear Tag number in the ‘Name or Ear Tag’ edit box. This is the
only edit box which must have something in it. Entering data in all other edit
boxes is optional. If you use both a Name and an Ear Tag enter the name in the
‘Name or Ear Tag’ edit box and the Ear Tag in the ‘Ear Tag’ edit box.
The EID (Electronic Identification) number may be entered by typing it in or by
scanning the EID tag with an RFID scanner while the animal’s record is showing
on the screen.
If the Premise ID has been entered on the Main Menu the ‘Premise ID’ edit box
will auto-fill when creating a new animal screen by clicking ‘New Steer’.
The ‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box will auto-fill, but the Herd/Pasture names must
first be entered into a list on the ‘Program Setup’ screen. This screen is
accessed from the Main Menu. An animal may be moved by clicking in the
‘Herd/Pasture’ edit box again and selecting a new pasture or pen name.
Move a whole herd by clicking ‘Move Herd’ and selecting the desired pasture,
group, or location.
The Breed and Color auto-fill lists may be modified in ‘Program Setup’.
Sire and Dam: The pedigree of an animal may be entered directly into the
pedigree chart. The program will automatically create a Bull or Cow record for
each animal entered into the pedigree chart. The pedigree can also be created as
follows: First, enter each Sire into its own Bull record, and each Dam into its
own Cow record. Make sure the ‘Include in Lookups’ checkbox is checked. Click
the archive check-box if the animal is not in your inventory. Then ‘Click’ the
sire and dam into the ‘Sire’ and ‘Dam’ edit boxes of the appropriate animal’s
record.
TEBV is the Twining Estimated Breeding Value. This value is used for keeping
track of animals bred to be multiple birth animals.
The names of the TEBV, Family, and DNA edit boxes may be changed by the user as
desired, in Program Setup.
Delete Record (Button)
Deletes the Animal Record! This button gives a warning and asks if you are sure
you want to do this.
Reports (Button)
This button takes you to the screen listing the various Reports that are
available. The animal’s Name, Registration, and Herd/Pasture name are brought
forward from the animal’s record.
Move Herd (Button)
This button allows you to move the entire herd from one pasture to another.
Comments (Button)
The Comments dialog allows you to enter any desired information about this
animal. Once information has been entered an asterisk will show on the Comments
button.
List Steers (Button)
List all Steers on the ranch or all in a specific herd/pasture. Another steer
may be selected from the List Steers dialog or close that dialog and come back
to the same steer record.
Get Scale Weight (Button)
Click this button to retrieve the current weight shown on the scale head.
D (Button)
Clicking the ‘D’ to the right of the Sire or Dam allows you to delete the
current Sire or Dam out of the edit box.
Pictures (Button)
Enter up to six pictures of this animal. Choose one of them to be displayed on
the Pedigree Chart.
Horn Info (Button)
Click the ‘Horn Info’ button to enter information about Longhorn cattle.
Owner (Button)
Click the ‘Owner’ button to enter information as appropriate if this animal is
owned by someone off-ranch, or is co-owned with someone else.
Archive (Check Box)
Click on the Archive Check Box to Archive or Un-Archive this animal.
----- VETERINARIAN -----
Click on ‘Veterinarian (This Animal)’ on the Reports Menu to display a
Veterinarian records for a specific animal. The Animal’s Name is filled in
automatically.
The program sets a default date period of one year back from today. You may
change this to any date period you like.
One Record is one line of information which includes: Date, Procedure, Product
and Manufacturer, Lot Number, Injection Site, Method, and Processor.
SELECT VET FROM LIST (Button): Click this button to go to the ‘Veterinarians’
selection screen. You may then click the ‘Select Vet’ button to select the vet
currently being displayed. The information for that vet will be entered into the
animal’s record. Click on ‘Previous Vet’ or ‘Next Vet’ to search for others vets
in the file.
If the desired vet is not in the file, click ‘New Vet’ and enter the information
as needed. If it becomes necessary to delete a vet out of the file, click
‘Delete Vet’.
PREVIOUS RECORD (Button): When the Veterinarian screen is opened the program
will show the Last record that was created. You can click the ‘Previous Record’
button to view a record that was entered previous to the current one.
NEXT RECORD (Button): You can click the ‘Next Record’ button to view a record
that was entered after the current one.
NEW RECORD (Button): You may click this button to enter a new record. You may
click on any edit box to edit an existing record.
LIST ALL VISITS (Button): Click this button to view a list of all vet visits
ever made to this animal.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on
Properties, and then select Landscape Mode.
----- VET TREATMENTS (HERD) -----
Click on ‘Vet Expenses (Herd)’ on the Reports Menu to display Vet Treatments/
Expenses for All Animals. A date period can be entered for a list of all
treatments during a specific period.
The header shows how many or each category have been treated (Cows, Calves,
Bulls, Heifers, Steers), and the total cost for each category. It also shows the
total cost for all animals for the period.
ALL ANIMALS (Check box): Creates a list of all animals on the ranch that have
been treated.
SPECIFIC HERD (Check box): Creates a list of all animals in a specific herd that
have been treated.
SORT BY: You can sort by any column on the screen. Click the down arrow on the
right end of the ‘Sort By’ box and select the column (Ascending or Descending)
as desired.
PRINTING: Click the Print Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Set the
printer for Landscape Mode.
